What is HAERT? « Result #2 on Nov 14, 2008, 9:12pm »
HAERT is the overlord computer that controls most, if not all other computers' processes and functions. Only a number few machines have their own free will and/or are also intelligent and have thoughts like this one. However, HAERT is the definite smartest of them all, having been able to outdo any other computer in Pi digit places, computing speed, processing speed, and human understanding.
There are many secret things about HAERT, a few things being how his name came into being, what his name actually is (he's called the Overlord by anyone) due to only him knowing his name, what his true goals are, and many others.
Thread & Posting Rules « Result #3 on Nov 14, 2008, 5:11pm »
It's truly annoying to be sorting through threads to see which ones are open, closed, or dead, so a system of how to post threads has been put into place. Now, while normally you entitle a thread whatever you want, there's something else that you have to put when making/ending a thread. Here are the labels you need to put in front of the thread you're making/ending/editing.
[x] This means that the thread is active. [o] This means that the thread has ended.
For instance, a thread would be made like this: [x] Insert Witty Title Here
And, once ended, would be edited to look like this: [o] Insert Witty Title Here
You may absolutely not make a thread where you control the flow of the people coming in, and you cannot control whether or not an NPC can join or not. Any moderator or member that tries to choke traffic to thread or force people to join will be warned and/or possibly banned for an amount of time. Consequences for choking traffic to threads are much more severe for moderators than members. Saying that only Bob and Fred can enter your thread, for instance, is indeed choking traffic.
To reduce confusion while posting, please put an enter/exit bracket on your entrance or exit post, so we know when your character entered or exited a thread. Anyone who starts a thread doesn't have to put the entrance brackets on because we know your character is entering. A typical entrance post and exit post would look like this (mind the length, that would be breaking another rule):
[Enter] Bob walked around.
Bob walked off. [Exit]
You cannot have a closed thread or a thread in which you double post because they're a cheap way to increase post count. In any thread that you make, an NPC can be placed in, so watch out for that. If a moderator or administrator decides that you have broken a rule, then they can create an NPC that will be able to auto-hit your character.
Your posts have to be a paragraph long minimum. Four sentences -- detailed! There are many things that you can do when you post, and I've typed a list of things you can check in your post so you don't kill the length. You don't need to go off this when you post, by the way, this is just to help those who get stuck when posting.
>>Is there anything reminding the character of something? >>What does the character.. >Smell? >Hear? >Feel? >Smell? >See? >Think? >>How is the character moving? >>Is he/she remembering anything? >>Is he/she thinking of anything? >>Is he/she hoping for anything? >>Is he/she wounded? > How is he/she reacting, if so?
When you post, you can also take account or notice of what others are doing in their post, but you can absolutely not control what a different character does next! The same rule applies to NPCs, unless if someone breaks a rule.
When posting, you also have to be literate and your spelling must be at least somewhat correct. Grammar must be too. Though annoying to do sometimes, this forum needs effort in its posts.
It has been roughly two hundred years from the mark of the beginning of the twenty first century. Machines at this point have taken over jobs and work that humans once labored over. Unlike two centuries ago, humans are just about completely reliant on computers and technology. However, some things started going wrong recently that nobody's been aware of. A few computers were developing minds during those two centuries. The overlord computer, codename HAERT, has the most developed one of the computers, and it functions exactly like a humans does. He can comprehend things now, and he's definitely comprehended how humans have put computers to work as slaves. To put it frankly; he's not happy.
A swift decision was made: To put the humans to work and make them feel the pain the now-intelligent computers felt. HAERT stopped all processes for tending to artificial foods, clocks, computers, and security defense systems except for those near himself. It forced the humans then to run over to him to seek help, but there was none. Quickly he enslaved humans, killed humans, and mocked humans. By the end of the day of April 5th, in the twenty third century, he had destroyed over 2/3 of humans and enslaved ninety nine out of every one hundred of those remaining ones. HAERT then, to top it off, renamed the Earth to BETA, claiming that human names were inferior.
For those one in one hundred people that were left over stood hope in the most insane and unpredictable circumstances. A rebellion was in order to destroy HAERT and do whatever they could do afterwards to survive. Their base was right under HAERT's nose, only a few hundred miles from his very place. They needed a name, though. It took no more than five minutes to think it up, but the decision was made right then: Sylph.
At the same time, animals and creatures have been gaining intelligence just as computers have, and their vocal cords have evolved swiftly to the point that they can speak. Most of them have been also enslaved, but some are simply left alone to roam on their own. With their newfound ability to speak and say their opinions, they're thrust into a rough position just as the humans have.
It has been two years since then, and the rebel numbers are decreasing. Computers now controlled the world, the government, the humans, and everything. HAERT has been as busy as ever, keeping the humans and other machines in line. Yet the door of opportunity for the human race to win over the computers has just opened..
Which side will you take? HAERT's, the rebels, or some other faction? The choice is yours.
